In order to fully appreciate Greenland’s nature, I joined a 10-day ‘hike and sail’ trip in Disko Bay area and the Umanak Fjord on board s/v Rembrandt immediately following an 18-day trip from Aasiaat to Thule. I sailed 699 nautical miles and had eight lovely hikes which have brought me to remote parts of Greenland.

Greenland is the world’s largest island, over three-quarters of which is covered by the only contemporary ice sheet outside Antarctica. I was on a trip from Spitsbergen, Norway to Iceland and had a chance to visit the eastern coast of Greenland. I long to see more. During my journey with OceanWide Expeditions earlier this year, I learn about its sailing trips in the Arctic in the summer. Hence, I come on board s/v Rembrandt van Rijn spending 26 days in the northwestern part of Greenland this summer.
After leaving Hong Kong on January 18, I soon realised that I would be visiting many islands during this journey. ‘Island-hopping round-the-world‘ becomes the central theme. It is the second longest one taken since retirement and a relatively leisure one: almost half of the time (68 days to be exact) was spent at sea, well-fed on board m/v Ortelius. Read more
Switzerland was not on my original itinerary. The day when Ortelius reached Cabo Verde on April 25, I got a message from Prudence inviting me to her 60th birthday cum 25th wedding anniversary party. Hence I made a trip to Switzerland attending her party, visiting friends in Geneva and going to Basel to see a Paul Gauguin exhibition. Read more
