My long trip in 2015 is centred around a sea voyage from Bluff, New Zealand to Cape Verde in the Atlantic Ocean. I choose Tonga as the first stop of this 160-day island-hopping journey. My friends either say “Where is Tonga?” or “There is not much to do!”. For a person passionate about islands, I disagree. I have a wonderful week in this mysterious Pacific island kingdom. Read more
John Thomson(1836-1921), a renowned Scottish photographer and travel writer of his time spent ten years in Asia and returned home with some 600 glass plates negatives of photographs. He was the first foreigner to have photographed Angkor Wat. I came to Bangkok to see a photo exhibition “Siam -Through the Lens of John Thomson 1865-66”. Read more
I love to spend Christmas with family and friends if possible. This year Lawrence, my younger brother and a novice diver, took the family to Mabul Island, Malaysia which is close to Sipadan. I have not dived for over 12 years and am surprised I have not forgotten the basic skills. I had six dives but was not impressed by the underwater scenery and marine life owing to poor visibility. Cherry-blossom and foliage in Japan are most enchanting. I have seen cherry blossom three times but have never seen fall colours. I finally make my way to Kyoto in the fall. Read more

The Atlantic Provinces comprising Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, is an interesting region with spectacular scenery, history and culture. Bing and I took a 10-day cruise and visited Quebec City, Sydney, Halifax, St John’s and Saguenay. Unfortunately, we missed Saint-Pierre owing to bad weather. Read more
